Location: Kapuskasing, Ontario
Salary: 70K - 80K + bonus
Description:
Reporting to the Mine Superintendent, the Mine Engineer is responsible for the development of pit and dump designs, economical studies involving optimal pit shells, ground control, pumping capacity and life of mine plan.
Specific Responsibilities will include:
- Leading long term planning (design & scheduling):
- Produce yearly and life of mine plans;
- Monitor activities at the dumps;
- Calculation of cut-off grades and work with pit optimizer packages;
- Participate in the budgeting process (capital & operational);
- Work with consultants in establishing ground control best practices and monitor stability issues;
- Establish dewatering plans & capacities;
- Participate in the yearly volume reconciliation of production.
- Promote improvements in all areas to meet or exceed set targets
- Involved in margin improvements (Agrium/Contractor);
- Looking at continuous improvement opportunities;
- Participate and lead meetings to conduct such improvement opportunities;
- Act as a strong safety leader in all aspects of the open pit operation
- Perform supervisory duties on a relief basis and leadership in team activities
Qualifications of the Position Include:
- A Bachelor degree in Mining/ degree with Mine Planning experience;
- Have open pit, truck/shovel mining experience;
- Able to handle a large and varied workload;
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, planning, problem solving, and organization skills
- Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision
- Experience working with MS Office, SAP, CAD, and Mine Planning software such as Surpac and Whittle.
